Remediation Validation, Dalston
IKM’s client was requested to reduce permeability around bulk hydrocarbon storage tanks by the Competent Authority, in line with the COMAH Containment Policy. A short term solution was required, as the tanks were due to be decommissioned.
IKM worked with the client to develop a low cost method to ensure COMAH compliance. During works, IKM undertook several visits to the site and prepared a photographic inspection log of the works. IKM carried out double ring permeability testing to confirm the effectiveness of the remedial solution, which involved the mixing of bentonite granules and homogeneous topsoil, followed by compaction on to the bund floor. It was proved that the bentonite and soil layer reduced the permeability to an acceptable level for CA acceptance; IKM prepared a validation report.
