Remediation Strategy

Site Specific Working Plan

Remediation Validation

THE CHALLENGE

IKM was appointed to conduct an environmental investigation, and undertake necessary remediation prior to development of a former fuel storage depot in Bishopbriggs, Glasgow.

THE SOLUTION

The scope included site investigation, detailed quantitative risk assessment and development of a remediation strategy.  This was followed by preparation of tender documents and a Scope of Works for the Groundworks Contractor, together with preparation of a Site Specific Working Plan, and design of an onsite water treatment system, including abstraction and discharge consents.

IKM provided supervision and validation of the bio-remediation works using on site test kits and laboratory validation, occupational health monitoring of site operatives, and odour and vapour perimeter monitoring.  In addition, IKM was the main point of contact with the regulator.

By completion, 75,000m3 of hydrocarbon contaminated material had been excavated, bio-remediated and successfully met the Site Specific Target Levels.

Following the completion of the works, IKM continued to monitor the site, and was able to demonstrate that the remediation was entirely successful.  This has been Scotland’s largest bioremediation project to date.
