Environmental Strategy

THE CHALLENGE

Since 2015 IKM has been responsible for developing the overall environmental strategy for the Highlands Enhancement Programme (HEP) on behalf of the Principal Contractor. The project will see the upgrade of railway infrastructure between Perth, Aberdeen and Inverness through a variety of habitats and sensitive receptors.

THE SOLUTION

IKM has been responsible for producing various project-wide and site specific environmental management plans (EMPs) at different phases of the project, including site investigation/ground investigation (SI/GI), enabling works, advance works and now main works.  Our team has also had the ability to input into detail design, which has resulted in efficiencies in the programming of works being realised. As a result of being involved during the early stages of the project, our team has been able to develop a robust consents register by working closely with the design team.  Our ecology team has undertaken Phase 1 protected species surveys and Phase 2 surveys including emergence / re-entry surveys for bats, endoscopic inspections including tree climbing surveys, badger bait-marking studies and reptile presence / absence surveys.

Our compliance team are busy supporting the site team with consents and gathering baseline data for NIA/NVMPs.
